The Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) is a mandatory charge imposed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on most applicants approved for permanent residence. As of 2025, it costs CAD $575 per adult. It must be paid before the issuance of the permanent resident visa or the final approval of PR status.
This fee represents the cost of conferring permanent resident status and covers administrative expenses such as the production of PR cards. Applicants may pay the RPRF upfront with their application or later when requested by IRCC. Paying upfront is recommended to avoid delays once the application is approved.
Dependent children and certain categories—such as refugees and protected persons—are exempt from paying the RPRF. The fee can be refunded if the application is withdrawn, refused, or cancelled before approval. Payment is made online through IRCC’s secure portal, and the receipt should be retained and uploaded with the application as proof of payment.
